ESN

From PBX Wiki

ESN stands for "Electronic Switched Network". It is Nortel's PBX outbound call routing system. The ESN datablock contains settings related to NARS, BARS, and CDP.

Configuration

The ESN datablock contains relatively few prompts in comparison to other datablocks, but the settings therein are used throughout the entire PBX and are the basis of outbound call routing.

Important Prompts

When configuring the ESN datablock, there are a few prompts that are commonly altered and should be considered extremely important:

  • CDP
    • An answer of "YES" will allow the PBX to use a "Coordinated Dial Plan". "NO" will deny its use.
  • AC1
    • This is the primary digit dialed to enter NARS/BARS
    • Most configurations set this to '9', thus allowing the user to "dial '9' to get out"
  • AC2
    • This is the second code that can be dialed to enter NARS
  • TGAR
    • An answer of "YES" will require the PBX to check TARG/TGAR matches when dialing through BARS
    • An answer of "NO" will not require the PBX to check TARG/TGAR matches when dialing through BARS
