Remote Text Notification

From PBX Wiki

Contents

Intro

CallPilot has the capability to send users an email notification to the arrival of a new message. Nortel calls this capability Remote Text Notification (RTN). The email sent by CallPilot does not contain an attachment with the new message in .wav, .vbk or .pdf (fax) format.

Overview

  • Log into CallPilot Manager
  • Enable Remote Text Notification for the Mailbox Class
  • Create a Notification Device Class
  • Specifiy an Sutbound Email Server - Watch out for this step, it's a "gotcha"
  • Configure a User for Remote Text Notification

Step-by-step

Log into CallPilot Manager

These instruction assume you have administrative rights to CallPilot.

  • Enter your credentials

Enable Remote Text Notification for the Mailbox Class

If you wish to enable RTN for a specific user or group of users, you must enable RTN for the mailbox class to which those users belong.

  • Users > Mailbox Classes
  • Click on the mailbox class
  • Check the "Remote Text Notification Capability" box

Create a Notification Device Class

  • Messaging > Notification Device Classes
  • Click "New". Enter a name (ex. Email). I'm not sure what "Language Localization" does exactly (perhaps someone can update this document!). Click "Save".

Specifiy an Outbound Email Server

The Nortel CallPilot documentation available directly from CallPilot Manager lead me to believe the outbound email server is configured under Messaging > External Email Servers. RTN did not work until I specified the outbound email server name and domain under Messaging > Message Delivery Configuration.

It is possible that you need to add the email server in both places. Anyone know?

  • Messaging > Message Delivery Configuration
  • Locate the SMTP/VPIM heading
  • Check the "Outgoing SMTP/VPIM" box
  • Enter your outbound email server in the "Outgoing SMTP Mail/Proxy Server" field.

Configure a User for Remote Text Notification

This configuration task can be left to the user via their MyCallPilot page. To configure this from CallPilot Manager go to Users > User Search. Locate the user you wish to configure and access their settings.
