[edit] OverviewThe Nortel Meridian and Succession PBX's Software divides information into Overlays or Loader Programs ("loads" for short). Each Load has a specific function for programming. Each overlay program (Load) is designed for a specific functionality. The user will recognize the Overlay Loader prompt of ">" when an overlay is not currently loaded. The OVL000 message may also be shown after a carriage return, signaling that the user is logged in. [edit] TerminologyThe common method of relaying a Nortel PBX programming operation to a tech is to "Go into Load X" (where "X" is the overlay number.) The more accurate way of relaying this information would be to "Load overlay X". In the PBX, the LD command is the overlay loader. The syntax for using the LD command is: >LD <overlay number> [edit] PBX Programming ExamplesTo load overlay 2: >LD 2 . To load overlay 20: >LD 20 REQ: [edit] Related PBX MessagesIn older Nortel PBX systems, the overlays were loaded from tape. If the overlay was not already in the memory of the PBX, then the user would see the "OVL001" message while the overlay loaded. [edit] References
