It may take a while to catch on but it makes communitcating with families in other states/countries even much more exciting and engaging. With so many more homes joining into broadband, its the natural progression. Here in NVA Verzion home DSL packages just got bumped up from 1MB to 3MB pipes to your home. Now that is nice! __________________ -=Welcome to PBXInfo=- -Become a PBXInfo Supporter -Get more PM Space, Profile Picture, a Signature -Add yourself to Pbxinfo's Frappr -Find Nortel Software

The big thing will be toll bypass from our local carrier to call Sweden (where my wife is from). We have friends over there that use it and SkypeOut to call us. They pay about 3 cents/min CDN when they do call here. We notice a bit of degridation from the common carrier but the calls are about the same as when you buy those long distance cards from the shops that get you 3 - 4 cents/min. They (Skype) also seem to be more accurate in their billing process than pre-paid cards. What amazed me the most is I have an iPAQ with built in 802.11. When I plug in a headset and log in to Skype the calls are as good as on the computer. I think once we establish a computer in a room of the house where we can hear it ring, we will use it more often. For now, the answering machine makes sense and we can schedule calls over seas. When I first set it up, it took me about 10 minutes to configure and place a test call. It went very smooth. It seems fairly intuitive to use though when searching for names in their directory it seems to miss some unless you have some pretty specific information (that they have put in their profile) on the person you are trying to find. A new toy for me so I am sure I'll learn more and have more comments in time.

Location: Europe Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Try a conference - I just did a 3 way with Germany / Australia & UK - it was near perfect even though I was on Wlan on my laptop - as long as the participants have a good broadband connection you should usually acheive close to "telephone quality" Hopefully I will get to test the video app. tonight

Location: @home Rep Power: 7 ![]() | update One step at a time for me. The answering service was very easy to set up. Have just called to leave myself a message so will check when I get home to see what is there. Video next? I'll see. only have a 400Mhz pentium so have to watch background application usage.

Location: Europe Rep Power: 5 ![]() | alarm from alcatel 4400 The video test worked fine (the only slight issue I found was lip-synch but whats new) quality is obviously dependant on bandwidth & camera quailty (I ran my first test on a laptop with Wlan - second test on my monster gaming machine with a good video camera connected - both worked fine)
