RE: what are pulsations/beats on analog phone lines ?

Hey everyone, I'm working on a solution for a mass scale graduation project. I'm in a bind and hope someone can help clear up some confusion.

I have two locations, california and new york where NY is the coporate center while california is the call center. I'd like to implement PBXs at both locations so they can make outgoing calls and calls to each other. I'd like to implement a VoIP solution between the two company locations, but use standard phone lines to dial outside our intranet. Is this a fesable solution?

I was looking at the Nortel products so please reference those. I'm looking at the Communication Server 1000 incorporating M3904 digital telephones. Will agents from these telephones be able to dial to corporate as well as dial outside to the PSTN without any problems; will the PBX determine if it's a VoIP call or PSTN call and route it accordingly?

I'm just looking for some clarification as to how this will work. Thank you everyone for the assistance.

Yes, You could have local PRI's at each location for Local and Long Distance Traffic and the VOIP between the two sites would run through the coorporate WAN. So you could run calls between the 2 sites using VOIP and your WAN while both offices making local calls uing statndard phone lines i.e. DID, COT, or PRI etc...

Yes agents using those phones will be able to dial interoffice or externally. It doesn't matter what phone they dial the Dialing Plan is programmed into the PBX and its by numbering plan.
So if all your calls to cooroporate started with 212555 then the pbx would route them through the WAN to the Office in NY, and vice versa, at new York any calls that go to the Ca office would route through the WAN.
If the WAN goes down the PBX automatically knows to send it out the 2nd source which would be the PRI or DID trunks. That would be transparent to the User.

Hope that helps sorry for the late reply.
