Hello all. I am getting ready for the first phase of a call center implementation in Canada. I need to know from anyone with telecomm experience in Canada or any Canadian telecomm folks who can point me to a good reference for telecomm regulations in Canada. I am specifically looking for information regarding emergency services. We had to obviously make provisions for our U.S. call center and want to know what they are for Canada. Thanks.

Hacker hits Telecom NZ's voice mail system

Try www.crtc.gc.ca for pure regulations.

Start Selling IP Phones and ATA with Service and make $$$

At this time we don't have the e-911 mandated so providing a building address and number is enough. We typically do this by setting up a single business line in each site then when a user calls 911 off the PBX we route the call back to the business line in the facility the call was made from. Not pretty but it works.

I am sure that some time in the future we will have to provide information on floor and possibly down to the office but for now it is pretty simple.

It seems most companies I have been in contact with up here broadcast a pilot number not the individuals extension so the 911 system picks up on the number and shows the address associated to it.

They (at least our carrier) charges ~.14 per number registered with the 911 system (so all DIDs are registered just in case) It is our responsibliity to maintain the information associated to the numbers (which is why we install single lines at each site serviced by our PBX but not in our main building)

Nothing official here, just what I see happening and what we have done.
