Yes, ditto the great discussion.

We will be face with this issue within the next year or so.

We have a very stable (and expensive) Cisco network and we've been to Cisco seminars reviewing their demos, Unified messaging, etc.

We are also mainly IBM based servers and my boss just returned from Rochestor with the announcement;

VoIP for iSeries now available

By Mark Fontecchio, News Writer

IBM is now offering VOIP software from 3Com on its System i servers.
Big Blue made the announcement on Monday, though it and 3Com Technology Co. announced in the spring that they were developing some kind of Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution for the System i. The product allows end users to run all their VoIP services on one server rather than having separate IP telephony functions -- such as call forwarding and conferencing -- on separate machines.

Looks like we'll have a lot of research to do in the near future.

Gotta run, will check in tomorrow.

So, in September of 2006 these were the rankings. What are they today?

Honestly the main focus I see for each:
Nortel - promotes Carrier class reliability
Avaya - Mostly promotes management but also takes every opportunityt to hammer Mitel/Shortel and Cisco on any feature they can find (this changes with every new release of competitors software service releases)
Mitel - cost cost cost (read: cheap cheap cheap)
Cisco - Security, network consolidation, XML applications, Video
Shortel - cost, true IP (but you have to add a whole other infrastructure to support the phones)
Alcatel - in the US for enterprise? Haven't seen them
Seimans - they took forever to realize that no one wanted to upgrade the 9006 to be "IP Enabled" by adding an expensive card and modules to the bottom of the existing phones. but still run two seperate drops to the desk.

What is this groups oppinion of these companies now? Is Shortel still under appreciated? Is Nortel still cheaper and Cisco still security driven? What would be your snapshot of the market today?

Cheers,
Rachelle
