No, But I've replaced a few that worked poorly and cost a fortune. Ask yourself why do I need a pure IP solution? If the answer is so I can move phones around without paying my vendor then you have no need for pure IP. Unless you have tons of people working off prem or lots of locations pure IP is expensive, complex and not really needed. Take a look at the many hybrid systems that do TDM inside the main office and IP for remote workers or remote offices.

I get calls everyday from IT guys saying they want pure IP and when I ask why they almost always go ummmmm, so I can move phones around? Then they tell me it will cost about $1000 a station to get a pure IP system. I tell them give me $1000 a station and I will move all your phones around for free for like. Hybrid system cost around $5-600 a station and if you terminate on a patch panel you can move your phones around yourself anyway.

The next answer is so they can get voice mail on Outlook. That's CTI and has nothing really to do with IP at all. Any CTI voice mail can do that.

You hit the nail dead center on the head. I wish more people would employ this type of common sence.

RE: Anyone Hiring!

I use an ESI IP40 IP PBX and am very happy. We are a small install with 5 phones so there isn't any issue with LAN traffic.

I dont' think any office should be pure voip. What do you do when the power goes out?? At least land line phones will work.

RE: How secure is VoIP?

If you have a good power back up system for a traditional PBX you should have the same for your IP PBX. With that in mind and your using POE, your phones shouldn't be affected if the power goes out.

RE: it simple

Yes and no with the POE. I have seen too many UPSs neglected and not regularly tested or have had the batteries replaced. We had one here last week where they tested a generator, when the power went from mains to generator our main computer room UPS was supposed to pick up the 30 second transfer, well the batteries failed and brought everything down (fortunatly our PBX does not rely on that one

In the aftermath they found a note on the batteries stating they were faulty and needed replacing but no one had acted on it.

What I am saying is, we need to be more diligent with back up systems of all types when moving to a VoIP platform as there will be multiple points of failure instead of one that we will need to stay on top of.

That is true, diligence with a backup system is important. But jvmb22 has a point.

We know that with a PBX there are much less points of failure to contend with. You have the PBX, the crossconnect, and the phone. As long as a PBX has power, there will be power direclty to the phone.

With an IP PBX system. You have many more points of failure.

IP PBX(Servers), DNS, DHCP Servers, Lan Switches, and phones. If the power goes out you would need to make sure that each Lan switch had a power back up to it, if the phones are not POE, then they would need battery back ups etc...
