Rep Power: 5 ![]() | 7400 Version I rest my case As a technician in Chicago, I have experienced on-site VOIP demos from Cisco, (which, by the way cost us a small fortune). I was not impressed, nor was my Chief Technology Officer. As I read your post, there was no mention of latency issues with Cisco VOIP. Regardless of what VOIP vendors say, there are latency issues still effecting customers. These issues most often do not occur initially, however, as traffic on backbones increase, so does the latency and becomes quite annoying to staff members. Thanks for your list, I will save for future reference. crossbar50

Location: Minneapolis Rep Power: 3 ![]() | RE: New Alcatel System wow that is quite the list of "Mitel does this too" no preconceptions there right? The fact that the author is looking at 1900 switches and 2500 routers tells me that they have not invested anything in their infrastructure in about 7-8 years, so the idea that ANY VoIP will run on their network could be rated as "slim to none." As soon as Mitel gets out there and tells them "Hey no problem, we can just VoIP enable your current PBX" they will bite and swallow a new system with massive limitations. BTW- since when is a non-standard version of windows considered Proprietary? Besides, locking down Windows Server by disabeling half the crap it comes with is only an improvement. So what if you don't get to be screwed by Windows Update every other month. At least when a patch comes from CCO, I know it's been tested on my exact box. No system is perfect, and if it doesn't do what you want, then find one that does, but I am so sick of this industry's kool-aid drinkers whining about how "their box does this already". Seriously, then why are you even looking at new stuff? Make of list of what you need and compare it against that? If you don't need something new then be happy with what you have. I did not see any analysis in that post that said "Our business requirements can/can not be met by this product because...." Lastly - Latency is solved by QoS. Every IP PBX vendor on the planet will tell you the same thing. If your network is congested there is no way a Cisco IP Tel packet will perform any better or worse then one from Avaya, Mitel, Nortel, NEC, or even Astrix. If the original guy is still running 1900 switches then he has bigger network issues to think about, like spanning-tree. So, good luck with any VoIP deployment. I would suggest waiting until you identify a need. Go look up XML integrations and see if it makes sense (paging, text messaging, conferencing, phone control, data entry, data query, weather maps, real-time traffic maps, etc) take care, I didn't mean to be caustic, sometimes I just come across that way (or so my wife tells me)

Also this was someone's opinion of a course they went to and what they brought back, not necessarily a bash on all of Cisco's IPT products. But thanks for your input, its fine to argue any products just as long as your coherant. __________________ -=Welcome to PBXInfo=- -Become a PBXInfo Supporter -Get more PM Space, Profile Picture, a Signature -Add yourself to Pbxinfo's Frappr -Find Nortel Software

Get a lab and bring in other solutions. They all have their failings and they all have their benefits. If any one of them was really all bad then they would not survive. If anyone of them was really that good, then we would all know it by now and not have to bicker and posture about how "x" is the only way to go. __________________ Deus ex machina

Or maybe Nortel systems require more support than the others which why there are more Nortel users on here than those of other systems. Everyone has a slightly different viewpoint on what to buy and why, personally I don't know enough about the non-Nortel products to give anyone a reason not to buy / try them or to buy Nortel over them. For me working on a limited budget in a small network built with all Nortel equipment I can't afford to take a flying leap to Cisco, Avaya, Mitel or any of the others because we would have to train (or hire) our people on them ($) and start warehousing another inventory of parts and phones ($$$) for these systems.
