Can someone tell me what's the true difference between SIP & H.323? - PBX Info :: Your Free PBX, PABX and Telephone Information Resource

I've done some research online but still can't tell which one is better. Looks like SIP is really coming up ahead.

SIP is supposedly the industry standard. H.323 is used in more of a proprietary invironment.

SIP is a scaled down version of h323. the manufacturers sip phones took pieces of h323 protocol, enough to run voice and transferring calls and basic functions, so reduced the bandwidth it needed to run across a network. where h323 has a lot more features available but requires more band with, so SIP will win out as long as bandwidth is an issue and it always will In my opinion
