Anyone with SBC (Session Border Controller) experience

I've been playing VOIP for my job for about a year. We are a large overall IT outsourcer. We are basically becoming a carrier (via SIP trunks) to our customers. My job is to develop the configurations for our Session Border Controllers (SBC) that act as the "firewalls" between us and our customers.
My only resource that has any experience here is the sales engineer from the SBC vendor. Looking for other people with like roles.
In my SBC learning I'm having to integrate various PBXs and therefore learn a little as I go. PBXs I've played with so far are CCM, MCS, and Mitel.

I'd love to find someone who works with Acme Packet SBCs.

Scott

My company has been looking at using SIP trunks thru our Provider (level3). The problem is that Level3 says they need to put a Cisco Call Manager at our site to do the integration since that is the only system they have certified their SIP trunking with. I really don't want to have to do that. When I questioned the Enginee with Level 3 if they would be interested in maybe certifying their product on the NEC SV7000, they kind of just shrugged their shoulders. I really dont' want to have to put 7 T-1's between us and the Call Manager just to get that working. You know what I mean?

Wow,
That doesn't seem like a good plan. I tell you...a CCM would introduce a whole new set of problems.
I don't know anything about the NEC PBX you mentioned....I've integrated Nortel MCS, Nortel CS1k, CCM v4, CCM v5, a Mitel and an Asterisk box to a central SIP provider.
I am learning that you can tweak just about anything you want.
I'd push your provider to do a direct integration with you (if you are comfortable with it security-wise)...or possibly using some type of SBC yourself. A Cisco router running their IP-IP-gw software could even qualify.

I've worked with Verizon on their IP trunking service and they don't give you a lot of flexibility. They require you to define your concurrent calls by location just as you would with TDM circuits. This kinda defeats a lot of the flexibility of a large central trunk.
Also worked with Global Crossings on their IP trunking. They seemed to be a little more advanced, but still had limitations on how they could send/receive DTMF. I really never knew that was so hard. I'm learning more about it now, but at the time it seemed so simple.
