Red face Uplugged Newbie Here!

Hi,

It was suggested I come here to post after introducing myself in the intro forum. First, I'll explain this postings title.

"Unplugged" refers to the fact that my husbands business partner has requested I look into upgrading their existing PBX (panasonic ?) to a more "current" one (voip, ip ?). I've been asked because I used to (10+ years) consult for government and large corp in voice telephony. Expectedly, things have changed (ie, voip was only beginning to be discussed among the mainstream). I know NOTHUN' bout VOIP/IP with the exception of what I've read here so far.

"Newbie" means Im here sticking my neck out w/ the intent of asking a bunch of stupid, thick-as-soup questions for the first time.

Any advice and guidance you all can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance for your patience and help.

I would start by finding three reputable local vendors to bid on a new system. Let the vendors educate you to what is available, and suitable for your application. I would not be as concerned over the brand as I would the reliability of the vendor. If it is a successful highly recommended vendor the systems they are selling would have to be reliable. What are your questions?

To paraphrase a proverb, the only stupid thick-as-soup question is the one that isn't asked.

Ask away, someone here will have an answer. And an opinion.
