My Vonage Review

Well after finding out about a Best Buy Rebate to get a free Adapter for vonage, I decided to try out Vonage.
Also with the rebate, I got a the free adapater and a 50$ gift certificate to Best Buy, I couldn't pass that up.
So I got my gift card and my adapter.

Went through the instructions, signed up for Vonage, blah blah, started my number migration but I didn't get the adapter working out of the box. It took a few days of tinking with it ( I admit I didn't try to hard since it didn't work at first after I followed the instructions once) I finally got it working simply by rebooting the adapter a couple of times. Bam I had dial tone.

The biggest problem is with the number port for about 1 week to 2 weeks after I had busy signals to my home phone or it would ring then dead air. Just odd stuff happen now and again. I had a friend install vonage as well the same time I did, he had the same problem with incoming calls after starting the port process. (But Vonage does say you won't be able to get calls on your line that is why they issue you a temporary number) Also after the number was fully ported, I received an email from vonage saying the port was complete. After that time which has been about 3 months now, I haven't had one issue with Vonage.

Calls are clear and sound great, billing is easy and I can look online to see who has called my house. I can also check my voicemail on the web.

So on a scale of 1-10 - 1 being horrible; 10 being excellent

Ease of Setting Up: 6
Reliability: 8 (known inital problems but after that haven't had any)
Value: 9
Voice Quality: 9
Tech Support: ? haven't used it yet
Website interfact: 8

So all in all I think Vonage is a great buy. Its value outweighs the small headaches you have at the beginning.

I've had vonage for almost 2 years now, and I absolutely love it. I was a little unsettled when they raised my rate, (by $2) and it took SEVERAL back and forth emails to get an explanation why. They concluded that it was due to state or local taxes, which I'm still not totally convinced. But the service has been good, and the only interrupts I've had was when my ISP went down........now if only my ISP (Covad) could have such a track record

I personally am no fan of Vonage- Although their commercials are a bit catchy... As a VoIP provider on a much smaller scale I think that we (and many others) owe Vonage a great bit of thanks as they have helped increase consumer awareness and are paving the way for smaller companies like us.
