Location: Peoria, IL Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Voip Solution for Web Host Company Sorry guys and gals, just looking for some free advice. =P I used to be in the telecomm arena, mostly avaya (partner, magix, definity) and some toshiba. My current full time job is as an IT Director for a local brokerage firm. My only experience with VOIP is my 3 vonage lines. Anyway, I am planning on expanding my web hosting company and do it full time. But I need to find a proper way to accept phone calls and route them to remote sales or support staff. What I would like to do is have an auto attendent answer, then route the calls depending on what menu selections they make and also what support agents are either logged in and/or maybe on a particular time schedule. Would like to be able to setup either voicemail or some time of max # of rings before it tries the next agent (maybe simultaneous ring?). I know how to do all of this with a standard pbx, pots lines, and feature link provided by AT&T, but that would be way to costly the actual calls and hardware. Plus i know SIP phones would add some extra functionality that would be helpful. Any tips, ideas, etc, for how to pull this off with possibly asterisk? Or if not, what else? What type of hardware would i need? Could I stay with vonage? For the low number of simultaneus calls I would be having, would my 712kb upload work? I figured this type of setup is pretty popular for small web hosting companies as they usually dont have staff all at one place. Any feedback is appreciated. I know I should probably talk to a consultant about it, but since I am going to be implementing most of it myself and knowing what such a nice guy rixride is, i figured i would try here. =P

You would need to have a static IP on the server, and your agents could log their SIP phones on from anywhere through their ISP, and receive the calls. In essence you would be your own Vonage server. You would want to connect it to the PSTN for the inbound calling via POTS, or T1 line. Now as far as securing the system, I think that will take an expert. You might look into a "hosted" IP service for this also.
