Location: Minneapolis, MN Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Strata CTX 100 Losing Settings Hello everyone, this is my first post to this forum. I have been reading it for a couple of weeks and searching through it for good information on Toshiba systems. I just started at a company that has four CTX 100 systems at each of our branches. We have a support company, which is also our dealer. One of our units has had continual problems over the course of a year. I just spoke to our support company this morning and feel like I got some inaccurate information. So, heres the issue. Everytime our CTX 100 unit is powered off using the main switch on the front, or loses power due to an outage, it loses some or all of its settings for the phone system and voicemail. We had an issue with voicemail not working last week and were told to power the unit off and on, and hit the reset switch on the PRI T1 card. After doing so, we were back up and running after 20 minutes, but lost a few changes that were done 2 months ago. This included a couple of names that had been mispelled and then corrected, and one extension swap. What I was told by our service rep, is that our system does not have any internal battery and therefore will lose its settings upon being powered off. He then told me he wanted to sell me one of two battery solutions. The first was a generic UPS, and the second was a specific Toshiba Power Pak Battery Backup for ($600 parts and 1hour of labor). I am more inclined to go with the UPS as there are a few devices (switch, firewall, router, WAP) that I would like on a battery backup as well. Can anyone tell me if this is indeed the case? Should our unit lose random settings when it loses power? Does it really not have a battery in it to hold settings? This all seems strange to me, considering at a previous company we moved offices once. We took down our old phone system, boxed it up, shipped it, and then had it up and running 2 weeks later. It never lost a single setting and worked as soon as we plugged it in. Thank you for your time, I look forward to your responses.

If you make changes and do not save the database after the change and you have an outage then you will lose the changes you have made. You can get a UPS system instead so you can have more than just the phone system on it. I would make sure the SD card is in the system. If you take the front cover off of the CTX you should be able to see it. If its not there then I would get back with your service provider and ask where it is. Each system should come with it.

From what I understand in your post, it is possible to make changes to settings on the unit but lose them if they are not saved to the SD card? From what I understand, the technician who made those changes last, did them by dialing into the unit and changing them from there. Is there a way for them to dial in, make changes, and then write those changes to the card? I only ask this, because we had to pay to have those changes redone because they blamed it on a power issue out of their control. Thank you for the very helpful reply. This give me some insight into the competence level of our provider.

When there is a power loss at your site and the system reboots or comes back up it looks at the SD card and loads from there. If any changes were made and not saved then there could be a problem. One thing I forgot to mention is, there is a battery strap on the processor. If that is in the OFF position nothing you do will save on the processor and will definately need to be saved to the SD card. The only way to see if the Battery strap is in the ON position would be to turn the system off and pull the processor. I think it is close to the back of the processor. This is sometimes missed during the install.
