Problem with message waiting light

I have several company vehicles with old analog, built-in cell phones. Company policy says that we are supposted to only use hands-free while using a company vehicle, which is one reason why we keep these grandfathered units around. However, the service plans we currently have is great for low use, local area work, but not great for the company car travelling to an office in a neighboring state.

I have considered purchasing a car kit and a pocket phone for each vehicle but am worried about getting these stolen. One idea is to tie the vehicle keys to the phone, however, I have multiple key sets and user groups for a particular vehicle. Plus, when that contract is up and I change phones, how lucky will I be to find the company still using the same brand of phone?

Complicating the situation I have read that cell companies will not have to support analog service after 2006, so I am interested in finding out what you may have done in your company.

Took all of the cell phones away and went back to the good ole one way numerical motorola pagers. Saved a bunch of coin and solved the whole stolen, broken, missing and misused problem. Wasn't my choice but so far it's worked out and productivity hasn't dropped like everyone said it would. They are thinking about stepping into the 90s with the two way text pagers but once again that's more money that's better left in the coffers.

Problem is that these cars are not used by techs but by "regular" staff members (i.e, the CEO, administrators, etc.). Plus, where many locations are at cell service is more reliable and consistant than pager service is.
