Rep Power: 0 ![]() | RE: Hi I have just gotten the OK to take some PBX training courses and I need to come up with a plan & budget. My experience is with small to medium size Nortel Option 11 and 61 ( 100 to less than 1000 users ), Meridian Mail, Octel 250 & 350, MICA, MIRAN and Symposium in retail and manufacturing environments. Mostly MAC's but some other issues arrise too. For the most part I am self-taught, either by watching the NextiraOne and Nortel techs when they come in, or by asking lots of questions and reading docs and the web. I am pretty comfortable in LD 10 , 11, 60, 80, 90, 95, regarding MAC, tracing, etc. I know there are better ways of doing many of the things I do daily and would like to learn more, but I hope not to have to start from scratch in a beginners course. A goal would be to feel confident handling aspects of the trunks ( T1, copper, RAN, etc etc ), to have a better understanding of Octel options, and get a good grasp of reporting ability in the PBX and voicemail. I'd like to get a handle on BARS and NARS too. I am looking over the Global Knowledge website right now. I am located near Boston, MA and will not be likely to get travel funding. Any recommendations of specific classes or cert. paths are appreciated! THX Jay

I&M really gives you the low down on how the system works and why from the hardware standpoint however I think it's classroom only and if they don't have it in your area you're kinda sol. There are a lot of CBT courses you can take as well, most of the ones I've seen are admin and intro courses but I've found that I can learn something new from anything no matter how basic it may appear to be. There is another thread in this section where a few people talk about their experience with GKs CBT courses.

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | I took the FAM couse 4 yrs ago @ Global Knowledge and a 61/81 install course @ CT Unify Spent 3 yrs working in the field with an incredibly cheap company, but a couple of decent TAC engineers. They were just not willing to invest in training and it cost them. The best training you'll get is being in the field and working on problems. Keep good notes. Get a current copy of MERL Avoid CT Unify....weak training program but its better than nothing. Should have been exposed to a lot more for an 8 day course
