Hello and happy new year to all.

As a new year resolution, I am determined to reduce my phone bill and therefore arranged a meeting eith a Telecoms company who are proposing to reduce our outbound call charges by somewhere between 15% to 55%.

I have a couple of questions for any member with experience in this matter;

I make about 2500 calls per month. What sort of bargaining power would that give to me? i.e. what percent of a reduction should I settle down for as a minimum?

Before I go into the meeting with this guy, I would appreciate any advice on any pitfalls or things you consider important when considering such a proposal.

Many thanks
Jake

Not knowing who your vendor(s) would be, my suggestion would be to contact your unused vendors 1st, and get a cost analysis/estimate from them, and then go back to your current vendor and ask them to match or beat it (pun intended :laugh: ). There is nothing like bargaining power (before idle threats) and competition. They all know you are there and they can MAKE money off of you, so dont sell yourself short either. Lastly, the reputation of your other vendors would come into play, but if you do your homework, you'll be fine. GL

I would agree with Buckshot, your best bargaining tool is to put it out to other vendors, see what you can get. Also evaluate all of your telecom needs (not just LD) such as T1's, ISP, etc. If it is a big company who can help you with more than just LD, you may get a break on all of the services.

Also, just to put it in perspective, I'm not so sure that 2500 calls is very much per month, I don't think most companies would consider you a big ticket.
Good Luck.

Dedicated Printing (Turning it off ??)

I would also put into play any ISP's that yop would be using for internet connections. Or other curcuits that you would use on th data side of the house. Account Reps. like to offer Total Solution packages to gain all the business from your accounts. Also, NEVER SIGN a contract for more than 2 years. 1 year is even better. Prices are so low that you don't need to go out past a year. I've had vendors approach me with 2 cents a minute for LD calls.

Just a note: I wouldn't put all my services under one carrier for the oblivious reasons. Mainly, if their network goes down, everything goes down. Plus, if you have more than one carrier, they start fighting for all your business needs which translates into lower rates and free lunches.
