I have got an exposure to Option 81 Nortel Meridian System. Also i have got all the manuals of the system.I want to do Certification which will help me to gain expertise in my profession.
My questions are :
-> Is it necessary to undergo training to do certification ?
-> How should i go about studying for the Certification ?
-> What are the subjects on which the Certification tests us ?
-> What is the exact format of the test conducted ?
Kindly reply me on my e-mail id <santoshlesundaram@yahoo.co.in>

Regards

I would go to the Nextira Website and see if there is an open class. Certification on X11 database admin is a good start but there are many other areas that you may like.

Most of what I know was learned "over-the-shoulder". I will be taking the X11 database training in January!

I've found Global Knowledge a great resource for training. Being certified in the PBXs gives you an edge over others. Another great reason for the training, as this was proven once again just last week for me, is that through conversations with the instructor and the other vendors and end-users in the class you learn of work-arounds and other hints that do not appear in the NTPs. They usually start with "Nortel does not support this but...."

My most recent "work-around" made me look very good in the eyes of Corp saving them thousands of dollars for traffic studies at our locations in the Americas.

Global Knowledge in the authorized training arm for Nortel. In fact, when Nortel closed the trining center in Richardson Tx, some of the folks went right to work for Global.

Santos-

I myself am "kinda" new to the Merirdian Family - My original training was in Key Systems (just about every brand under the sun) and DMS 100 "Servord" level programming..

Only 5 years on the M81c and I consider myself - "knowlegable" - Although "Jack" would tell you - I always learn something new everyday...Still a newbie at heart, but confidence makes me a Veteran....

Go with the courses offered by Global Knoweldge - they are the perferred provider for Nortel courses and as far as I know have done a great job...

When you go - take good notes - We're all interested in the "Succession " platform of Nortel.. Any insight would be appreciated...

Good Luck

C,

LOL!!!!

Remember going to class is not just an excuse to party!!!!

You will only get out of the course what you put into it!

As S, stated there is a boatload of knowledge in sidebar/smoke break/lunch/beer at the hotel pool conversations.

have fun but remeber the knowledge from these classes coudl save your butt!!

As indicated by Ramjet, the former Nortel Training Center in Richardson is now Global Knowledge. I attended MANY courses there when it was Nortel as well as Global. Basically, Nortel spun the Training Center off when they started spining off their Manufacturing, AR/AP, Security, IT, PBX Maintenance (yes, PBX Maintenance!) and began outsourcing it all. Virtually all that is left that is Nortel proper is the software design, marketing, technical support and logisitics. When they sold off the Training Center, the management all the way up to VP level stayed on and have been there ever since. The Big Dog there is Bryan Pickett. I have known him for years and he is old Nortel. They basically just changed the signs on the buildings.

santoshsundaram,

Are you working with someone like Wipro? Nortel has started outsourcing their technical support to Wipro and are getting a beating from the Distributors for it.
