VoIP - Plan A vs Plan B

Hi All,

I am looking though website after website for a new cordless phone model to be used at out production plant. They all look about the same with a few different features.

We are currently using the VTech 5831 5.8GHz model. We need the 5.8 GHz as we have a wireless computer system in there. It needs to be compatible with an Avaya Definity phone system, which should be most of them.

Is anyone using any name brand that is of a decent price, range, quality that they could point me to?

Thank you for any tips! Rhonda

Cordless Phones

Rhonda, I have installed several Engenius Cordless Phones. They are industrial strength and great coverage. I buy them from Graybar and they may have a loaner for you to try. They work on the analog port of the pbx. www.engeniustech.com Good Luck

RE: GSM calls dropped by voice mail ?

I have heard good things about engenius but I haven't tested them out. What is the main purpose of the wireless phones? For specific users or for general public use?

RE: Error with Server Today

Thanks for your input. I found the EnGenius phones and might have tried them but I understand they can't pick up many of the features of the Definity Switch. I then looked at the Avaya wrieless transtalk 9000 which would work for functionality but you are talking about 900.00 per phone/user. Ouch!

We have many production staff that need to run large buildings with multiple floors as well as IT staff. The regular cordless phones can only make it about 1/5 of the way around the building. We have a wireless computer system in one production plant so we need the 5.8 gig phones.

I guess we have to decide if the expense is worth it.

Thanks for your input! Rhonda

This is so very timely. I posted this same type of question over on the NortelPortal page. The EnGenius product isn't exactly what I wanted but, it is the closest thing that I have found thus far.

Thanks!

Is the Transtalk a Wireless IP solution or a cordless solution?

If you already have Wireless IP You may look into a Wireless IP Solution for Avaya. I know Nortel has a solution but I am not sure of what Avaya's is.

But even so your are probably looking at more expensive phones. There will probably be a trade off somewhere. Price/Features etc..
