has anybody been using VONAGE phone services?

I signed up over a month ago and just love the features and price. I am paying 30 bucks a month that Verizon was charging me 70 bucks for......

And the best feature that i luv is the fact that if the network goes down all calls can be forwarded to a number of your choice.

The voice mail quality is equal to phone system vm's.

BUT THE BEST PART ABOUT VONAGE........VERIZON IS OUT OF MY LIFE........
goodbye to those operators with the most disgusting attitudes I have ever seen.

I have heard really good things about Vonage. Too bad I don't have DSL or Cable out where I live or I would be using it.

Our network guy has had it for several months and says it's the cats'
behind. And it's cheap. Must get Cable DSL.

This table is from dslreports.com and is updated every week from reviews shared by that Forums members (Telcom industry pros/experts/users....even some CEO, CIO types):

http://www.dslreports.com/gbu

There's also a VoIP specific discussion board there at:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/voip

It's a might "testy" sometimes but is a good source for learning more about Voip technology and the variety of providers.

Overall these folks are pretty picky & opinionated sometimes but it will give you some interesting insights. Note that providers are only listed in the review page if a review has been submitted. So a vendor you may be looking for may not be on the list.

Seems Vonnage gets mixed reviews & comments from them. Most concerns appear to center on poor customer service.

You should also look over the info at http://fcc.gov/voip

Personally I'm partial to Packet8 & Broadvox .....but that's just me.

God Bless,
Michael

I have had a Vonage account for the past 15 months. This stuff works! I'm an old SXS,XY AE5 switchmen living in a digital/IP world. Have had some VERY minor problems , Vonage was quick and followed up quickly. The down side is, if you need to have analog modem connections, Vonage will cause some problems with Procomm talking with Meridain PBX's. Even if you get the FAX option you will still have problems. I suspect there are some QOS issu'e within the Vonage Network.
I'm just glad to be rid of QWEST and COX telephone high rates.

I use Lingo which is 15 bucks per month, on the 500min plan. Its works GREAT. I did have some initial issues porting over my number, took about 2 months. I have had no problems since. Not a big phone person, when I get home so only needed the 500 min plan. Plus everyone in the house has a cell phone even my 10 year old... Wow never thought it would come top this. If you don't have high speed GET IT and switch, or you will be left behind

Have you guys tested 911 on your service? Either Packet8, Vonage or some of the others that were mentioned. I would be curious to see how it works.

It doesn't in most cases...YET...
There are several class action suits out there right now, and legislation to resolve that issue, however...
(E911 is my little "baby" here...so I'm always looking out for new news)
Case in point:

And an older one that talks of the Vonage lawsuit:

building a 1a2 system

Packet8 has had E911 for awhile...works fine.

With the recent ruling ordering E911 implementation by every VoIP provider and giving a deadline for that....things will change. However, there'll likely be some pain along the way too. Providers gong out of business (can't meet timelines or too costly), consumer costs going up, maybe a E911 fee to cover provider costs of connecting, the list could go on.

It's kind of a wait and see right now.
