Re: All the Alcatel 4400 Manuals you will ever need, and mor

Can someone be kind enough to share any tricks to avoid users accidentally dialing 911 number? For the past few weeks, Sheriffs are being deployed on our two sites because of mis-dialed 911 calls. Our access code to get an outside line is 9. Users should dial (when trying to call outside w/ a different area code) 9 +1 + area code + #, but instead, they are sometimes dialing 9 + 1 + 1 (fingers too fast for that extra 1).

Is there a way to avoid this problem? By the way, we have Meridian Opt 61c and Opt 11c.

Thanks

Mis-dialed 911 calls

We advised our people not to hang up but to stay on the line and explain to the dispatcher that there is no emergency. We also deployed ESA on our Meridian which allows our Public safety dept to follow up.

Perception 4000 - In need of serious help

you would have to retrain everyone but you could change 9 for an outside line to 8. that helped here some but we have call boxes with an emergency button going to 911 which get mistakenly pressed even tough they are clearly labeled. If the party hangs up they will, instead of calling that number back, dispatch security to investigate before they send the police

VoIP v Circuit Switched PBX

As previous respondants have said, it is important to train employees not to hang up if they dial 911 by mistake. Secondly, using NARS and a AC2 for toll calls will solve the problem. Additionally, implementing ESA will give the call taker a number for a call back to verify the call and finally, Nortel is currently developing a patented solution to resolve the entire issue of mis-dialed 911.
