Location: Minnesota Rep Power: 7 ![]() | I am wondering how many of you use/don't use paging at your respective companies. I work at our company's corporate office. We have 13 buildings that make up this campus, all of which are wired for overhead paging. We have no restrictions on paging, which I, and many of my co-workers find annoying and distracting. I have been paged while at my desk without my phone ever ringing. I would be interested in knowing what others are doing. I spoke to one individual that left our company a few years back, and where she's at now, and their policy is only to page with HR approval. What do you all do? Do you have policies or just no problems? Are any of you in the same boat? As a side note, we have a business unit in another city that has around 200 employees on two floors of a building. They opted to not install paging when they moved it, and have never looked back.

Location: Wisconsin Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Paging policies We have paging for two buildings. The only one that can page at our Corporate Office is the Switchboard Operator. As a telecom adm. and a switchboard operator, I am required to first try the persons extension and then try a page. Anyone who needs a page done (internal staff or external callers) are first asked if they had called the persons extension. As we know that many people hadn't even though they said yes, we still try the extension first. We do not give out the paging code so we stop needless paging. Hope this helps.

Location: Sydney, Australia Rep Power: 6 ![]() | What exactly do you mean by 'overhead paging'? Is this paging over a Public Address system? Which is completely different to what I would refer to our campus paging system. 3 - Hospital campus. Nobody uses the PA system unless for Disaster recovery procedures. Not even Doctors get paged using this. Comes through from switch console/security/executive office.

I'm currently reading the 9/11 Commision Report and it seems there is a bit of confusion (with regards to responsibility) about paging systems and public address systems (AKA Life Safety Systems). I'll be posting a white paper soon about the commisions findings and how it may effect how we do business in the US. Location: Minnesota Rep Power: 7 ![]() | To clarify a couple of questions that were brought up; Only the console operators can actually perform the paging, however, we have no limitations on who can request a user (or visitor) be paged. They will page if a vendor calls, doesn't get me, and zeros out of voice mail and request I be paged. Its beyond the point of abuse, as I know people page co-workers for breaks... Also, when I refer to 'overhead paging' it could be likened to PA system (it's a Definity ECS, so it refers to it as loudspeaker paging.)

Location: Gulf Coast Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | M81C - Calls zero'd out back to an operator are offered VM not Paging. Our consoles show the return reason "CFNA" (call forward no answer), CFW "Call forwarded", etc. There are certian procedures in place to handle the call based on the return type. It sounds like your company should do the same. I certianly would not want to be hounded by Vendors over the Paging sys. Do the Definity Consoles show the return reason or the VM DN?
