Location: Missouri Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I am currently in the process of evaluating new PBX's to either replace our ROLM 9751 or run in tandem with it.. We are looking at Nortel, NEC, Avaya and Siemens to provide us with a hybrid switch. We are going to continue with the traditional TDM environment, but have the option to switch to VOIP if we want. What I need is any information that you all may have regarding any of the above vendors and if anyone out there has done a integration / migration into a new PBX, while keeping there existing PBX up and running. Location: The other side of the Lake from work Rep Power: 11 ![]() | Selecting a New PBX WOW! with a name like Forbes you were destined to for greatness, eh Anyway....there are ALOT of us with our biases (biasie?)...we all like what we know, I'll put it that way. If you do a quick search on this page under the topic "New PBX" or some such I"m sure you're bound to find a plethera of info regarding the different systems and what we all like/don't like about them. And too, while I'm sure I speak for most when I say we'd have no issue giving our opinions for free, if you want a white paper write up...well...lets just say, don't go there Anyway....if you could supply a bit more info as to the layout of what your after (IE: how big a site? VM needed? type of Integration? Integration with the Rolm or with the VoIP system?) we'd be glad to give some advice (ok...some opinion....advice would imply we weren't slanted to one system over the others) SO, ask away! Location: ILLINOIS Rep Power: 6 ![]() | I agree with Pirates_Ghost (biases) but do please consider the following: Staying with the vendor/product will help in end user transition (same way to do things). PhoneMail is campatibale with all Siemens products. If you go the VoIP route, be careful. I've installed multiple Cisco VoIP units and they will work only for what they are intended for. Don't try to work miracles out of it.

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Ladies and Gentlemen....we got him..... First off I am biased. I mainly work on Nortel and Cisco. I really dont care for call managers and dont recomend them. In my opinion Cisco still just doesent get it especially from the support side and I am a CCNP who has put in several for any of you Cisco durus out there that think I dont know what im talking about. What I really like is Nortel and in particular ther VOIP solutions. All the features of a real phone switch like Nortel and the advantages of VOIP. I cant wait to put in a Succession.

Location: Meridian, MS Rep Power: 5 ![]() | "...Nortel, NEC, Avaya and Siemens..." NorTel. I started on NorTel. It was Northen Telecom back then. Obviously a good switch, just look at how many are installed. They seem to have had to get into VoIP just to get away from an aging platform. Lot's of techs/companies available to support it. And that is very important. NEC. Don't know. I know there are a lot of NEAX 2400's around. Avaya. My PBX of choice. Bell Labs. American. Need I say more. I was at a company that had a Mitel PBX in a call center environment and ran out of gas. Naturally I was looking at NorTel but we brought in a consulting firm to help us evaluate a new switch. We looked hard at the NorTel (Option81c) and Avaya (G3r). As much as I wanted the NorTel to "win" it could not. The Avaya could handle more calls and Avaya had more add ons (voicemail, IVR, ect) that were more tightly integrated. To be sure, NorTel may have closed the gap since then. Siemens. I got a big bag of nothin' on this. Consider Mitel. They make a good product too. If cost is an issue. The Avaya will be at a disadvantage. Try to find an Avaya Business Partner. GET THREE BIDS! Whoever you buy from check on systems they have installed! No pictures, go look at it and talk to the customer...
