On Dec. 1, 1880 a telephone was installed for the first time in the White House.

And to think...if it had NEVER been installed, where would this country be to day?
(a lot safer, I'm sure)

Not sure, can't find anything on that "red" phone...although I think that came about in the late 40's early 50's (Cold War Era)

The red phone was the batphone & the glass cover used was the cover of a cheese board (really) as far as I remember....
