Monitored set Dave

Tell me about it. I've noticed that the salaries can be all over the map. That's one of the reasons why I was having such a hard time finding good, solid information. It's difficult trying to prove that you should be making a particular $ amount when another report contradicts the one you examined.

Thanks,

C

Hoover.com or RHI (Robert Half International) are good sources for salary info. They maybe a little optimistic and may not have adjusted to the recent eceonomic conditions.
For what it's worth, a bit of my recent salary history is:
1986 - 1993 Phone tech $25 to $40K
1993 - 1995 - Telecom Manager $55K - Dallas TX
1995 - 1998 - contacting $25 to $40 an hour - Dallas Ft worth area
1998 - 2000 - Telecom Manager $80k Ft Worth
2001 - out of work Austin
2002 - present $60k in little ole Meridian, MS

On the one hand those of us who manage PBXs are well compensated (myself having little formal education) on the other hand they can't pay us enough. The thing is to prove it. IT (and IT personel) are, in my experience, considered non revenue generating, expensive, evil, money pits. I keep close track of every thing I do in two area. Make the company more productive and save money. More productive as in, using voice mail boxes as auto attendants so the the caller can transfer to a cell phone or pager and find the person they called. Save money by buying refurbed phones from the secondary market at half the cost, deleting old circuits, ect. There is a lot of low hanging fruit out there for those of us who know what we are doing. At one job I got $15k bonus based on money saved. Where I'm at now I got an some unusual compensation. Two very nice guitars and two very nice guitar amplifiers worth about $6k.
I'm gonna create another post on this subject. Maybe we can share ideas of how we save money for our companies

I think you are the first Tech form MS I have heard of on this board. I was born and raised there. Anyway I didnt think there were enough people in one spot in MS to need a PBX Good to have you.

I'm a transplanted Texan. My boss from a previous job in Ft Worth got me into this mess There is a very small technical pool here, thus the need to import talent. Yeh, there are a few places with PBXs around. Peavey is one of those. After that there is state government and then the hospitals. Need to have a lot of those cause everyone eats so much bacon fat. Guess I could fit a "bringin home the bacon" in there somehow but I don't have time. Did you grow up in the Meridian area?
