WiFi In Your Camera Via the SD Slot

No, that's not a digital camera with an RSS feed, but it's pretty darn close. A newly designed SD card by the people of Eye-Fi essentially grants any camera the ability to upload pictures wirelessly via a WiFi connection. Remember when you used to plunk one of these WiFi sporting suckers in your PDA's SDIO slot so that you could hop onto the internet? Well, this SD card seems to function in much the same way, except it doesn't have a big ugly antenna sticking out the top.

Signal quality concerns aside, I have one rather major question to ask of the Eye-Fi developers. They say that this card will "let any SD-friendly camera upload pics wirelessly to photo blogs or to your PC." I understand that the SD card has WiFi, yes, but wouldn't you need some sort of software or firmware upgrade to your camera so that you can manage this transfer? I'd love to take it for a test drive to find out.

What we can tell you is that in addition to the WiFi radio, the Eye-Fi SD card also packs in 2GB of flash memory. That, and it costs 100 bucks and is expected to ship this fall. Other capacities may become available as well.

-----------------------------------------------
This is a very good upgrade, it will be great when your camera automatically uploads your pictures to your pc.
