Rep Power: 7 ![]() | usedphones.com Mitch, Ive been it it 22years in September. Yes something did happen. The big breakup of ATT and C&P. It could have been a few years earlier but it really opened up the market for anyone with a punchtool. Everyone in my neighborhood except for a small few are in communications. Sometime around then Nortel moved south from Canada.

Location: Carthage, Mo. Rep Power: 7 ![]() | about E&M Mitch, Actually I think it was the Carterphone decision at the supreme court level that gave the industry it's jump start. That decision made it leaal to own your own phone system, and also to connect it to Mother Bell's phone lines, even though back then, you had to have "isolation devices" on the lines to prevent any damage to the central offices. As T said, the divestiture of AT&T and the 'baby bells" in 83 really had an explosive impact on it as well. I was working at an established interconnect at the time of divestiture, and remember all the tailgate interconnects that sprang up over night. They would come in, do a half a$%^d job, and then leave the customer with no one to call. We would get these calls to go out and put them back into service after they would get knocked out. it drove us nuts for several years. As T said this is probably why there are so many folks out there that say they have 20 years in the business. BTW, I started my first training class in this business on Sept. 1,1972. you can do the math. Jim
