I would like to hear from other techs and post what area and location you are working in...

Maybe by seeing where the busy areas of the country are us unemployed techs might have help in thinking about relocation...

Im from Baltimore and if wherent for a couple of nice installations I would be back in good old New Jersey........But I will stick it out here...There is a lot of building going on around the Baltimore/Washington airport...There are a lot of old systems out there, but you know the old story..."If it aint broke, dont fix it"

I'm in Atlanta, GA....Dont know how much longer though....have heard rumors of OUTSOURCING. But, will be 6 months or so.

I've looked for jobs in this area...there are jobs out there in this area but, the majority of them are SALES jobs in Telecom. I dont know about the rest of you but, I personally dont like sales people...they create the majority of my everyday problems(But, on the bright side of that....job security!!)

Good luck to you all....I'll keep an eye out on positions if I see or hear of any.

I'm located in Louisville, KY and you can ditto what the guy from Georgia said. I am looking at a widespread layoff in the next 6 months. I will be trying to stay in the field but, I may be forced to reinvent myself. Good thing I listened to my mother. I got a BS in Secondary Education way back when. I might be putting it to use soon.

Jonesboro, Arkansas here. So busy that were having a hard time keeping up with stuff.
course, were doing the CLEC thing too. Nortel, Vodavi, some AT&T/Lucent/Avaya/Whatever they are this week and a few other odd systems. VoIP seems to be a pretty good seller lately too.

Lots going on in the Memphis area as I understand it too.

test...I work in an IT dept. for a large company..we dont sell phone systems. I dont care if they sell or not!

Little Rock, AR for the Little Rock National Airport Commission. Although we don't manage the phone switch 100% of the time, it takes up a pretty fair amount of our time with all the moves/adds/changes that we do plus the paper work is a drag.

I would say that the job industry in telecommunications here is pretty good. Alltel's headquarters are located here in Little Rock, AR. Southwestern Bell is also pretty good here (also the primary provider of telephone services; since when are they not).
