Nothing on the union web site or the news yet. But that is normal, I remember one strike that did not happen until almost a month after the contract expired.

For anyone who might be interested, CWA has announced a tentative contract with Avaya for three years. This was done without a strike.

It is tentative until approved by members. Only once during my 35 years there was it turned down and that was a local in New York.

So it seems they may have averted the crisis.
Good for stocks.

If I am not mistaken, Avaya/Lucent was going to strike a year or so ago.

I made some extra money and got paid a whole months salary just to do nothing just in case there was a strike. I know this sounds bad but I wouldnt mind getting a chunk of that again. I know that striking is bad for the employee but most of the time they are avoided so I am thinking its not too bad to ruffle feathers of the corporate America with threatening a strike every now and again.

I guess if they paid you guys good bonuses you wouldn't have to do that.

Well, I was actually not employed by Lucent at anytime during the strike negotiations. I was employed by my current company and on standby with Lucent. Some staffin agent had gotten in contact with me about two weeks before the deadline. They paid me as if I was on staff at 26 dollars an hour for 160 hours of work. Not bad huh?

As far as bonuses go, I wish my current employer would get with the program and do bonuses like other companies.

The only problem with a bonus as that some companys will give you those instead of a pay raise. I, personally, would rather have a raise. A bonus is here and gone, a raise lasts all year.

The best of both worlds, if you can get it.

I worked at my last job for four years, got one 3% payraise in the last year and a $600 bonus in the second year. Yet my reviews were all exemplary. I am no longer there.
