I just had the greatest oportunity to deal with Verizon....my friends, its geting worse...
I placed an order to have a 25 pair rj21x cable & terminating block to be installed in a customers site. When the technician showed up...he didnt have the cable....!!!!!

This is why our telco bills are rising just as fast as your cable bill...but we dont do anything cause we take our phones at standard operating equipment....BUT I WANT MY MTV !!!!

Barbie, I'm wondering if he could've punched it down if he had the cable!! Seriously, it's the same thing with SBC on alot of installs. Also, on new jobs, if you don't get in there before them, it's a sure bet that they will put their terminal right in the middle of an 8 ft backboard!!!

Wrong Topic, Wrong Place, But I'm a Telecom guy with a Car A

I had an Ameritech tech at my house to put in a NID. I pretty much did it for him, and he gave me a new 66 blade for my punchdown tool

Iraqi war humour - off-limits

It all goes back to them laying off so many people that actually had a clue. Some of us didn't have enough years to stay (9 in my case) and then old guys started retiring. The new people being hired are clueless and there isn't anyone left to show them the ropes.

Then you have the whole problem with the Unions being so anal. Some of the old timers have many years on the job but no experience doing anything but what their exact job title allows. They don't have to learn any other jobs and the Union backs them on it.

I can surely agree with that. Back when I worked for SWBT, I could only work on what they sold. Now, as long as we are able to get a set of books for it we will give it a try. As for the unions, their time has come and gone. Never did me any good when I needed them. Just sucked up the dues, and were nowhere to be found when needed!!!

I worked on an install with a tech from my dad's work a while back. The Ameritech guy was telling us about how many people were laid off and he was lucky since he had been there for a long time. My SBC stock has gone way down

MCA and Data TN

Hey guys, I was working an order for one of my clients once to add a couple of loops at a branch office. The due date from ma bell was for the day before I got there. I get onsite and cant find the lines anywhere so I call bell and they say that they've already been d-marked. I go out looking again and still cant find them so bell sends a tech who promptly directs me to a SBC can ACROSS THE ROAD. And the sad thing is, the tech had no clue that it was his responsibility to bring it to the building.

aint that just sad?
