UPGRADING A MERIDIAN 51C TO SHOW NAME-ID &TOYING W/ VOIC

We are trying to set up procomm to use on our phonemail and our switch. The procomm works fine with the switch, but all we get when we dial into phonemail is gibberish. Has anyone had any luck using procomm with phonemail

My apologies if you get this twice...

Connecting to the Rolm PhoneMail

Direct Connection Method:

Windows 98 has been found most compatible with connecting to the Rolm Phonemail system. You will need a null modem cable, most likely with a 9-pin female to 25-pin male if you are connecting from a notebook. You will also need a copy of Procomm Plus to interface with the PhoneMail system. The information and settings provided have been based on Procomm Plus 32 version 4.7.

After installing Procomm Plus, open the program list, open Procomm Plus, and the click on the Procomm Plus icon. Once you have opened the Procomm Plus Terminal, click on File, the open the Connection Directory (or by clicking on the Connection Directory icon on the toolbar). In the Connection Directory window, just below File, click the New Entry icon . In the Add Directory Connection window, you will several fields requiring input. Name, Data Connection, Terminal, and Protocol must be configured. The Name field should be named PhoneMail Direct. The Data Connection should be set to Direct Connect-Com X, this COM port is the external COM port you will be connecting from. Typically on notebooks, this will be COM 1. The Terminal should be set to ANSI BBS. The Protocol should be set to Zmodem. After this information has been input click OK and then click on Modem/Connection Properties. In this window, set the Baud to 1200, None for Parity, Data Bits to 8, and the Stop Bits to 1. Click OK to close the windows, select File, and then click Save to save.

Now connect the null modem cable and double-click on the PhoneMail Direct entry that you has just created to establish the connection.

Modem Connection Method:

Similar to the Direct Connection, go to the Procomm Plus Terminal, click on File, the open the Connection Directory (or by clicking on the Connection Directory icon on the toolbar). In the Connection Directory window, just below File, click the New Entry icon . In the Add Directory Connection window, you will several fields requiring input. Name this Phonemail Remote. Under Data Connection select your modem. The Data Number will be the digital extension the modem is connected to allowing you to connect through another digital port. This will be a four digit extension number.

Now connect the telephone cable to notebook and a digital port. Then, double-click on the PhoneMail Remote entry that you has just created to establish the connection.

Accessing the PhoneMail System

Once the connection has been established, you will see a terminal windows that says “Login”. Type sysadmin and then press enter. You will then be prompted for a password, type sysadmin. You are now in the PhoneMail System.
