Just set ours up

Have the 40/8 switch with one softphone and two IP230 Phones. This is replacing our 3COM NBX since it got jacked by lighting (with everything else). One of the IP230's is hosted 180 Miles away over a Sonic to Sonic VPN. The setup was cake. The speaker phone blows the 3COM away. I love the Personal Call Manager. The only thing that it can't do that the NBX100 did is DID on Analog Loops, need either Digital Loop, or PRI.

Rixride,

Shoretel to 3Com NBX is not apples to apples. The Shoretel can scale from 1 SG8-40 (8 analog or 40 IP sets) to up to 10,000 users. Shoretel can be a SMB solution but it plays in the high-end IP PBX's.

The Shoretel IP sets, have full duplex Bose speakerphones, which makes for a great speaker phone.

I have many installs under my belt and it is a serious contender and you will be hearing more and more about Shoretel in the near future.

Shoretel Rocks....

I'm finishing up a 125 user 2 site install using the newest IP560G (gigabit) phones...I've installed numerous systems as well... Some of the best stuff out there.

It's all GUI based, and pretty intuitive. If your going to install it yourself, you could take the Installer class. It's 5 days long, and well worth it. They let customers take it. If you have a basic setup, this will be all you need. I actually installed 2 systems before I ever took the class....but I am a Network Engineer (MCSE, CCNA, Etc) with 10 years in the field, so I knew a little bit.

So then what do you use for back ups incase a PRI goes down?

ShoreTel System

Great system, easy administration. We have 4 sites now, about to add one more site. Approximately 120 employees in all. Only one real limitation that we have run into, is that you can only have 16 simultaneous phones ring off of one call. This is a hardware restriction in the switches which ShoreTel is working on increasing now.

If your PRI goes down, what happens is, if you have multiple sites and a separate internet, or WAN connection, the system will go thru the WAN to your other site and utilizes lines or a PRI there, if you give the site permission to do so. We have 2 PRIs and a separate PRI for long distance and 1-800 #s, but in addition to all this, we kept a few analog lines that we can un-forward to regular pots phones and take calls that way.
