Installing IROB's ...

Hi everyone:

I'm wondering if someone might be able to provide a bit of help installing IROB's. I will have three MLS-12D's in another building, and while putting BET's at both ends would be most desirable, I just can't swing the $$ to do that. The IROB's would provide some protection, and they're something we can afford, but I don't know how they would fit into the wiring scheme.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

MANY thanks for your help!

I can only speak generally.

The cable that runs between the buildings needs proper protection and grounding.

The small IROBs you see advertised on some websites are really only for secondary protection. Here is an example:

The units you would need at the cable entrance on each end are much more potent and expensive. They would need to be installed and grounded as instructed by the NEC and local codes.

Here is an example of what a unit would look something like:

(Look at page 96/277).

Installation of a true IROB should only be done by someone who has been properly trained and knows the codes inside & out.
