ok, so i need to be able to have someone dial 34 to reach the person on that extension.

if i do what you described above, then i must find another button that will transfer to extension 72.

That's right. You can assign an available Selector Code to transfer callers to extension 72.

Or you can set selector code 7 to Direct Extension Transfer, and tell your callers to dial 72
