new card and new extensions....

the main card in my PBX system is an ACS Proc 3.0 and i just added a new extension card. it is a 308EC Module 1.0. i now have extensions 34-41 in my system.

extension 34 is my newest extension, however, there is a small problem and i cant figure it out.

the extension can dial out and if someone calls and asks for extension 34, the receptionist can transfer to it with no problems...however, if the receptionist isn't at her desk and someone waits for the prompt to manually dial 34, it will not transfer to that extension.

do i need to make extension 34 active somewhere in the system?

transferring internally to and from extension 34 works as well, no issues.

Thanks.

Selector Code "3" might not be defined properly. What is it currently set for?

I don't follow?

If you tell me how to look this up, I should be able to answer your question.

Thanks.

Selector Codes allow you to transfer calls, play announcements or access sub-menus just by pressing 1 digit (usually 1->9).

So say for example, an incoming call is answered by the auto attendant. If the caller presses the number "3"....what happens? If Selector Code #3 is set to, say, play an announcement, extensions 30-39 cannot be direct dialed because the auto attendant has been told to process the call a certain way as soon as the number "3" is pressed.

Sorry if my explanation is somewhat unclear.

Oh, I forgot to ask, which voicemail and revision is being used? (Partner Mail, Partner Voice Messaging, Partner Mail VS or Avaya Partner Messaging)

the voice mail is a white box mounted next to the PBX. the only thing i see on the voice mail box is

Lucent Partner Mail.

our greeting states that anytime during the message if you know the partys extension you can dial it at any time.

our extensions are

10-27 Office Employees

28-32 Used for voice mail

34-41 is the new blade/module that i purchased for extra extensions.

i have 2 office phones on the new blade

extensions 34 and 35. 35 is just a guest office, so i am not concerned with it right now.

34 is a new employee that i cant access from the main menu if i call in and manually press 34. however, when our receptionist answers the phone, she can transfer the call to x34 with no issues.

i think i need to tell the PBX that extension 34 is part of the system, but i dont know how to do that.

btw, i tried the copy setting, to copy the extension of one line, that i know works, to x34 and it doesnt seem to work.

thanks and i hope that helps answer your question.

Ok....

You have a Partner Mail (looks like a wall-mounted PC...because that's what it really is).

Avaya's website has numerous documents for AT&T/Lucent/Avaya systems available for review. Here is the link for the Partner Mail:

http://support.avaya.com/edoc/docs/p...l/prm3piu1.pdf

Page 48/388 lists where to find the various options in the Partner Mail's menu. 53/388 starts the discussion of how to create a mailbox.

Check out these pages and see if something helps.

Let me try it this way.

A person calls in wanting to reach X34. The auto attendant answers the call. The caller tries to press "34". What exactly happens?

Does the caller hear an error message? (If "yes" what does the message say?)
Is the caller sent to dead air?
Is the caller sent to the wrong extension?
Does the caller gets disconnected?
Something else happens?

The auto attendant, if it answers, is responsible for routing calls based on what the caller does (or doesn't) do. In this case the Partner Mail acts as both an auto attendant & voicemail.

the caller is sent to our 'dispatch employees' which is not correct. our dispatch department has 6 lines. to call ALL dispatchers at once, anyone at any phone can press transfer 72, which makes those 6 lines rings. their extensions are 15, 16, 17, 18, 25, and 26.

when someones calls in for x34 and the receptionist doesnt pick up, and they manually press x34, the call is forwarded to our dispatch group.

also, why is the copy setting not working?

i have used the copy setting before and it worked flawlessly.

thanks.

It seems that Selector Code "3" in your auto attendant is set to transfer calls to extension 72, so when someone tries to dial "32", the system hears the "3" and away the calls goes.

If you do not want callers who press "3" to be sent to 72, here is a procedure you can use to change what happens when someone presses "3":

"INTERCOM 777"
"9997#"
(password-#)
"9" for programming
(password-#)
"3" for auto attendants

The auto attendants are numbered from 1 to 3, unless it is set up for single auto attendant operation. If that is the situation, you will not be prompted for the auto attendant number.

"1" for Day or "2" for Night
"6" to modify
"3" for Selector Code 3

At this point, I believe the voicemail will tell you what Selector Code 3 does. It will probably say something along the lines of "Transfer to Extension 72"

"9" change the Selector Code
"5" for Direct Extension Transfer
"*#" to finish changing Selector Codes
"#" to keep the current Dial-0/Timeout option intact
"#" to keep the current Prompt intact
