Message light WONT turn on

last week our phone main r3.0 processor card fried a capacitor on the power supply board. I purchased a refurb 3.0 board and used our PCMCIA card to bring back all of our system settings. the only problem was that 4 to 5 extensions were not saved so i had to manually program those, not a big deal at all. i am not sure why automatic backup was not setup, but it is now.

everything is up and running right now, besides the message light. when a message is left, the light doesn't work for anyone. i have tested this many, many times and no luck. is there a setting i need to enable from phone ext. 10 or 11 to get this feature back?

this is the last thing i have to figure out. thanks guys

EDIT
as far as i know, we have a partner/lucent PBX
8 incomming lines from the phone company
everyone can push the programmed button GET MAIL and check their messages
2 34d partner phones and a bunch of partner 18d phones.

message light wont work for anyone.

I may have missed it, but which voicemail system is being used? Is it the Partner Mail (old stand-alone system that looks like a PC), Partner Mail VS, Partner Voice Messaging or Avaya Partner Messaging?

You could try defaulting and then re-programming the voicemail system to see if that clears the trouble.

it is a white box on the wall. i can go see what it says after i post this.

all i know is that there are 6-7 lines going from my card in slot 2 into the VM box.

im not sure that i want to "default" the VM. i never programmed it, so i dont want to mess it up. the VM works, but the light doesnt kick on when there is a message. so the office can atleast check VM for now.

thanks

The Patner Mail VS and Avaya Partner Messaging look like modules that slide into the carriers that house the rest of the telephone system modules.

The Partner Voice Messaging is a PCMCIA card that slides into one of the 2 slots on the front of the Partner ACS processor.

The Partner Mail is a stand alone unit. It is usually mounted next to the carrier that houses the rest of the phone system.

The old Partner Mail. I'm not very familiar with that system so I'll have to take a pass.

I do know that the voicemail system sends a code to the Partner ACS processor and tells the processor to light the Message Waiting Lamps on the phones. I am guessing that either the voicemail is not sending the code, or the processor does not recognize it.

Given that the system worked before the meltdown, I would hazard a guess that the processor may be the culprit. The only way to prove it would be to either replace the processor or the voicemail.

Other members here might have more suggestions.

well i have a new processor in place and i restored it with my pc card.

if the vm was fried, i dont think it would be working right now, which it is.

thanks for the heads up, i hope someone can shed some more light on this.

The R3 is an old release so the processor you have is probably refurbished. Current releases are the R6 and R7.

If all else fails, try contacting an Avaya Business Partner in your area. You can find them listed in the Yellow Pages.

i made sure the processor i got was a refurb 3.0 that was the only way my restore card would work.
