ASA initial set up

Hi, everyone. My name is Rob and I am new to this forum.

We are currently using the Avaya Partner system with release 5.0. I purchased a remote administration card today and will be installing and setting up the system this afternoon after normal business hours. I have a few quick questions, thought this would be a great place to start.

Little run down on our set up. We have 5 lines that are roll over lines that are initiated from one published number. They are as follows....

Line 1 - (XXX)-XXX-8721
Line 2 - (XXX)-XXX-4336
Line 3 - (XXX)-XXX-1720
Line 4 - (XXX)-XXX-8718
Line 5 - (XXX)-XXX-5189

Our published number is Line 1 (8721). this is the number customers call with the 4 other roll over lines.

I would like to set up the auto attendant to answer all incoming calls. However, I need one line that can be given to the local authorities to ring through the system and go straight to a desk. We are a towing company, and they need to be able to call and have a live person answer the phone.

This is what I am thinking I should do.....

Set up the auto attendant to answer lines 1-4. and give the line 5 number to the local authorities. However, my problem is....if someone is on line 5 and you call that line directly....it doens't roll over....it just rings.......this is a problem as while it doens't happen too often...sometimes 2 seperate local authorities may call at the same time...... how do I avoid the lost call?

I don't wanna write a book.... I do have a lot of questions..... so I will try to tackle them one at a time......lol

thanks in advance for all the help!

I cannot answer any Partner questions because I have never worked on them. But if someone is on that last line and another person calls that number, they should get a busy signal. If the incoming caller hears ringing then the line is rolling somewhere. Check with your dialtone vendor to see what is happening.
