TDA200 IP phone connection established doesnt work

Hello all,

I have contacted a dealer for support and I need a new set of eyes....first of thank you in advance for your help this is becoming frustrating

We are setting up a satellite office which is connected via a hardware VPN.

Main office
I have a PBX Panasonic TDA200 phone system and a Checkpoint firewall
SAt office
I have a Checkpoint appliance a SAfe@office 500W and it is connected to two IP phones.

I have successfully configured a VPN site to site and programs, email are working just fine. I am able to ping in both directions and in the logs of the Main office firewall I see the phones hitting the TDA200

The phones are set to DHCP and are given an IP but just say "server connecting" and never turn on. I have tested the IP phones by taking them to the main office and plugging them in the LAN and they register and work just fine

At the SAT office the phone system registers the phones, gives the correct IP's but say FAULT and wont connect.

I have contacted checkpoint support and the VPN is configured properly and I can even see VOIP traffic from the Satelitte office.

I have contacted Panasonic support (dealer) and he blames the VPN. I have read documentation and opened up ports on both ends, cables are good and network connectivity is working fine, just cant use the phones.

My question is I am under the impression that when a site to site VPN is established it trusts all incoming and outgoing connections and ports don't need to be opened. If I can PING the phones from the main office, the phone system registers the phones on the IP extension port card why would it not just connect?

again thanks for any insight.

what ip address is the system setup on, and what is the gateway.
what are the ip ranges on each side.
Try setting up the phones on a fixed ip
make sure port 8000 is open on firewall, even with a vpn in place, some ports will still have to be opened.

We have Panasonic phones, all ports are open. I have found the problem...it turns out that my panasonic system only supports MGCP VOIP protocol and the Checkpoint safe@office 500w only supports SIP and H323 protocols. I did a packet sniffer and grabbed the traffic when I plugged in the phone and then verified with Panasonic and CP support. VPN worked great but because of the safe@office appliance the phones would not work. CP recommended a UTM-1 130 appliance but it is way more expensive then the safe@office. Thanks for the replies I hope this might help someone else.
