TD1232E Engaged tone on reception when busy

Hi Their,

I am a bit new to truobleshooting the phone system, though I wondered if someone could help me with a problem. We have a KX-TD1232E where there are two reception phones for our main number. The problem is when both phones are busy anyone else calling receives an engaged tone rather than being put through to the voice mail system. Though the voice mail system does work if the reception phone is not answered. Could someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

if you have ISDN you have to turn on call waiting on the extensions or the system will send back busy signal to the caller

Do you see why it is so important to tell us what kind of trunking is on the system???

Hi,

Yes we have an ISDN system with 30 extensions and two reception extensions servicing the outside line.

Call waiting has been enabled on both reception phones, though still engaged when both are in use.

Thanks,

sounds like PRI provider does not have the incoming line hunting set up properly what should happen is when channel 1 & 2 are engaged the third or fourth call for that matter should give a incoming call indication to receptionist and then irna to voicemail

If you have set a ddi/main number to a group with only 2 people in it with out call waiting from co on and have no overflow setup, then the system could give back busy even though you have 16/30 in bound channels

also make sure if you have 2-3 loop co buttons or all lines on buttons for a second call to come in on call waiting. Check that the call waiting distribution is set to all in group settings(it is not by default)

Shawn, ISDN is not like the standard co lines, a standard line will ring as long as there is a free line for inbound, ISDN could give back busy if set as a ddi to a phone even though there is 16 lines for inbound if the system is programmed to do so....

who would want the line to ring busy when they are paying for 30 incoming trunks
a queue or voicemail would be much better than a busy tone you'd get people hanging up and looking for the next company in the phone book. You get one or both of the receptionists gabbing with there boyfriends and you are losing money
