Hey,

Originally I had a SLT from one of the eight extension sockets from my Panasonic pbx. All other phones were PT phones connected via RJ45 plugs and sockets.

I had a loudtoner (a bell) connected to a BT Master Socket which in turn was connected to the SLT. This was per manual and worked fine, in other words the bell rang when the extension was rung.

However since I changed the phone over to PT phone and wired up the eight pins in the rj45 socket, I cannot get the bell to ring. Manual says to connect a SLT aswell as a PT from the same socket, use pins 2,5. I tried this and it doesn't work.

So,

RJ45 Socket (8 pins) -> BT Master Socket (2,5 pins) -> LoudToner connected to master socket on pins 5,3 which should make the bell ring. Off a normal telephone line the bell works fine.

Any thoughts? I can only be using the wrong pins from the RJ45 socket me thinks. Other query is that I can only find around 25v on the pins in the RJ45 socket, shouldn't this be higher?

Infact I found two pins which around 25v and that was all.

25v sounds about right to me for this system as the backup battery is 2 x 12v batteries.

The RJ45 connectors for the extensions should be wired as
Low
Ring
Tip
High
across the middle 4 pins in that order

An SLT should be wired to Tip & Ring
A PT should be wired to Tip, Ring, High & Low
A DSS console should be wired to High & Low

I don't know about 2,5, but here we use 5&4 of an 8-pin for voice T&R. You also have to tell the system that you have bridged a SL set to that extension.
You'll see 24 volts DC and about 90v AC when the line rings. You also ought to see about 13v DC on the data pair (pins 3&6).

I think the REN is limited to 3 or less. Some loud bells are pretty close to that, so you might have a problem..If it works without the PT set, then it ought to work with it.

1 have you switched on parell mode on the extension ?
if so then you need to confirm that you have an annalogue dialtone on the pair of wires connedted to T+R (connected to the bell ie remove the bell and connect directly to an slt handset
if you have a dialtone then the fault is power supply the LBR may need a capassitor inline these would normaly be built into the BT wall socket but it may have have gone faulty during the change over.

thanks for that. However I think power is a problem.

I basically run a bt master socket (as per manual with cap) from pins 4,5 of rj45 socket which goes to extension on pbx. Without the KX-T7750 PT phone attached to the rj45 socket the bell works fine. With it attached the bell isn't powered enough to ring. It used to work with an SLT phone like this but not with the PT phone....

What can I do other than get a mains powered bell?

I have put many bells on these systems. you have to turn on Parallel extension on in prog 610. if this is not on for the extension the second a pt extension is plugged in the system stops the ring voltage down the analogue pair. you will know if you go over your ren value as it will trip(answer) the call when you ring it

I shall try that monday. Just looked in to Console and I've found the parallel telephone option so hopefully that will do the trick. I enver realised the connections were autodetecting... I should have guessed.

Thanks for that info about Parallel switch, I missed that, wasted my time and got annoyed.

It now works great and everything is as I want it, except for outside access problem I still got. But that's in another thread.
