Unhappy Connecting a parallel phone on the XDP port

I have a KX-TDA200 system with one E1 card for outside lines, 1 8-port digital ext card and 2 16-port analog ext cards.

All the extensions on the digital ext card have 7633 sets. All the sets work fine, all buttons, display, CID, etc etc.

I am trying to connect a parallel set on the XDP port. I take a regular cable with RJ-11 connector and plug one end into the 7633's XDP port and the other into a run of the mill analog phone. Result: Deafening silence. The parallel phone has no dial tone, doesn't ring, no nothing.

AFAIK, this should have worked. As per the manual, the XDP mode settings in the management program select if the parallel set has its own ext number or shares the one for the main set. Other than that there is nothing that says "port on/off".

The 7633 is connected using a 4-wire / 2 pair cable to the PBX. Ofcourse. Otherwise it wouldn't be working.

What else? Ideas / comments, anyone?

There is no analog port on a digital card. You can plug in a DIGITAL phone into the XDP port, but it does not work like the old TD system.

Ofcourse. I am not plugging in the analog phone in the digital card. That would have fried the phone.

As I mentioned, I plug in a KX-T7633 which is a digital phone into the digital card.

I am now trying to connect an analog phone into the XDP on the back panel of the 7633. This is according to the diagram and text given in the manual which says that I can connect either a digital or an analog phone to the XDP of the 7633.

You can't put a analogue phone on the back of a 76xx phone unless you have a dhlc 8 hybrid card and have 4 wires from system to phone

What OBT said. You CAN plug another digital phone into the XDP port if it's only plugged into a digital card.

Got it?

(Net crashed and I lost my post)

OBT / Carl

As I said in my original post, the TDA200 does have a digital card. It's a DHLC8. My ext is a KX-T7633 digital set which is connected to the DHLC8 using 4 wires. If the connection was 2 wire only, the LCD on my phone wouldn't work, right?

So: TDA200 w/ DHLC8 ---4 wire--- 7633

All kosher according to the manual.

The analog phone is a simple one, no LCD, nothing but dial buttons which works fine if connected to a regular CO line or to the SLC16 analog ext card of the TDA200.

When I plug it into the XDP at the back of the 7633, it should work, right? But it doesn't. No dial tone. Nada.

Are all 4 wires going from telephone set to telephone system. You will get display on the 7633 telephone if the outer 2 wires are connected the inner 2 wires carry the analogue extension. If it is not getting dial tone then the inner wires must be disconnected, try plugging out the digital extension and plug in the analogue set and see what you get. the parallel on/off , makes the stl the same number as digital set or a separate extension, but you will still get dial tone on either settings.

Puhleaze!

Yes, yes. I've said it repeatedly: I know about the 4-wire. The 7633 is working perfectly. The LCD is working, there is a dial tone.

It's the analog phone plugged into the back of the 7633 in the XDP which does not have a dial tone.

As I said, the only setting in the management console is whether to give the parallel set its own ext # or share the same one. There is no other setting to enable or disable the XDP entirely.

The whole enigma is why it doesn't work as advertised.
