KX-TEA308 Outside line access / prefix

Hi,

I'm stuck with what is a sure a basic function on this unit. Read the manuals and it isn't making much sense.

I've got this unit working fine with 8 extensions except for two issues.

First, and most important. We have two BT PSTN CO lines and one vonage line for incoming and outgoing. We have the system set up to hunt for an idle line for outgoing calls, though line 3 (vonage) is our main line out as it costs less. Therefore the system gives access in the order of 3,2,1 which is what we want.

However with the lines we get from BT we have to dial a prefix of 9 to get out. However the vonage line doesn't require this.

The problem is I cannot figure out how to enter a number 9 somewhere for both lines 1,2 so users only have to dial the main number. At present it is confusing because users have to press number 9 only if they go out on 1,2 but not 3.

I tried using ARS but found that unless I put all lines in one group then the system would not pass the user to line 2 or 1 if 3 was busy. With this method I could only get the system to add a 9 to all lines within the group and not individual lines meaning that line 3 also got 9 added (bad).

I'm sure there is such as simply way to prefix 9 to just two of my three lines???

Hope that's making sense to someone....

Look forward to any advice!!

Cheers

Danny

Why do you have to prefix the bt lines with 9, and not the vonage, do you have a vpn?

You wont be able to add a prefix to 2 lines and not the third with ars unless the numbers you dial are different numbers on line 1 and 2 to line 3.

Hey,

The prefix for bt line is because they are the newer feature lines. We use call divert instead of a hunt group because the bt guy told is we couldnt have a hunt group if one of the lines had adsl enabled on it. I don't believe that but it's hard getting the correct information from them.

Anyway, either way because we still have to have a feature line for call divert/hunt group it requires us to dial 9 to get out.

The vonage system never did require is to dial 9, maybe it's done at vonage end but all we have is a small linksys router with two rj11 ports which gives us two lines to vonage.

So are you telling me there is no way to do this?

That is not true about the adsl and hunting, just a wat to get you to pay for a third line.
Strange about the dial 9 though. never heard anything about that before.
any way

You could try turning on ars on lines 1+2 only (prog 350) and when line 3 is used it wont add the 9

Hi,

Not sure what you mean by stateside but yes vonage have uk services and have done for some time I believe.

Our vonage telephone number is a local uk number to match our normal pstn line numbers so the area code is the same 5 digit code and then 6 other numbers.

if it is dial 9 then it is what we call centrex or flexpath here and you are able to transfer a call to another pstn number with a hook flash and a 9 & number and you can also can usually dial the last 3 or 4 digits of said number like an intercom call.... do you want a solution for dialing a 9 on vonage line?

Hi,

I need to dial 9 on lines 2 & 1 but not on 3.

Most calls go out on 3 but when 3 is busy the pbx grabs the next available line 2 and then 1. But Users will get confused by having to dial 9 on only 2 lines so I need to do it for them!

Does that make sense?
