i'm curious to get hyperterminal working as well. my current laptop doesn't have a serial port - however i've previously worked around this by using my port replicator, which does have a serial port.

recently i was overseas and picked up a pcmcia > serial adaptor. i thought i'd fixed my problem, however the panasonic programming application i use (Operating & Maintenance Tool Ver5.12AL) for the td816 systems refuses to work with this card. the card works for siemens manager e and other programs that require serial ports, so i'm thinking the problem lies in the legacy nature of the panasonic program - it's dos based. i'm hoping that if i could get hyperterminal to work for programming that i might be able to sidestep the problem.

anybody have any clues?

if you use the stock windows program you wouldn't have that problem.
you can always pick up a real dumb terminal like a spotline. I have it connected permanently to my 336 and voice wizard

we only had an old panasonic disc lying around from a few years back. it did have a windows gui based TD1232 program, but that refused to work with the TD816 systems (there's a few of them around here).

interesting. i've got two usb > serial dongles here. i'd heard a lot of bad things about them, but i always figured the problem to be with the initial setup and installation of the dongle - similar to the way bluetooth dongles had problems with windows xp.

however, i still couldn't get the damn things to work. a few months later i went on a training course where i was told that the pcmcia adapters were supposed to be better, because there is no conversion from serial > usb - the card links directly into the pci bus on the system. this made sense to me, so i bought one.

funnily enough, when i use the pcmcia adapter with the panasonic programmer i get some brief activity on my pcmcia card, after which the program informs me that the session was disconnected. if i try and connect without actually plugging the serial port in, it takes much longer.
