Location: 1069.7 miles from Tiverton, Ontario (CANADA) Rep Power: 14  Gender:  Country:     | Rapid City Runway 7 Miles From Ellsworth Air Force Base, Where Jet Landed EAGAN, Minn. -- Two pilots who landed an airliner at the wrong South Dakota airport have been suspended, a spokesman for Northwest Airlines said late Monday. The Northwest flight carrying 117 passengers to Rapid City, S.D., veered off course Saturday and landed at nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base. The plane remained on the ground for more than three hours as the pilots told Air Force security officers what went wrong -- and as a new crew was dispatched to continue the flight to Rapid City. An Air Force spokesman said the pilots said they descended through a cloud and the first runway they saw was the one at Ellsworth. The two runways are parallel, but about 7 miles apart. **Good thing we weren’t on extra, extra high alert. Like double secret probation. Ellsworth Air force Base has a huge number of B2 Bombers that have taken part of the Iraq thing and some things in Afghanistan. They take of from here in South Dakota and fly over and do their thing.
