WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A New Zealand man caught driving at more than twice the legal speed limit claimed he needed to step on the gas in order to blow dry his car.
Roger Daniel, 37, made the novel excuse after he was nabbed traveling at more than 75 mph in a 30 mph zone in the northern town of Whangarei, the Dominion Post newspaper reported on Wednesday.

"I have a bad back and just thought I would do that to dry the car instead of having to chamois it dry," he told police.

The explanation failed to impress and Daniel was fined $191 and had his license suspended for six months.

I'd hate to see how fast you have to go to wax the car.

I've done this in the company van before... but 75 out here is kind of on the slow side.

75mph in Cali' is a tad slow. You better be going 75 as you are getting off the on-ramp.

A long time ago I took of picture of my speedometer buried at 100 (stupid speed limiter) and hung it up in the operations area one morning before anyone came in. One of the customer bigwigs saw it and hit the roof... it was a funny moment but I haven't had the desire to take the van upto 100 ever again.

Slag,
You could say you were the "Chuck Yeager" of test pilots that day.
You were pushing the envelope in your van so to speak.
Trying to get right on out there on the edge.
You had “The Right Stuff” that day.

** Note to self: next time in Cali’, while on the freeway stay out of the fast lane. Slag Yeager may have a new van and he may be barreling down trying to hit 101mph. **
