Location: The other side of the Lake from work Rep Power: 12   | Right, I know for the US it's nearing Turkey day (thanksgiving), but the rest of the world is looking towards Xmas (Yule, Christmas what ever) SO... I pose this to our find friend from the "frozen wasteland" (kidding) Once upon a time...I had read something about a Mountain near Rysch..er..Reysch...the Capital City of Iceland. Anyway...this Mountain had been painstakenly hollowed out and a large "Santa's Village" type of park had been built. My questions: Does it still exist? Where is it, exactly? When is it open? How much? Reason: My family may have the chance to visit ol' Icy and his countrymen in the comming year and would LOVE to see that. Anyway...that's the question/.... Location: Iceland Rep Power: 7 Country:  | Charge Account Feature Codes in MAT6 showing on non-ACD sets Santa has left the building  .Seriusly thoug, there has not been a mountain hollowed out. Our Capital city is Reykjavík, but up north (about 400 km ) there is a city named Akureyri and they have a house called Xmas house that is open all year round. It´s very popular by tourists and actually natives too. Yesterday I asked a co-worker if it wasn´t strange to go there in the middle of the summer as I know he has done and he said "no it´s great". | ||||||||

Icy's blonde  ANYWAY...as my 8th grade report stated: Iceland was founded by the Nordic tribes who were sailing west in search of new lands. Finding Iceland to be a pleasent palce, allowing for a grand setelment, they named it Iceland as to deter others from flocking to the island and thus overpopulating it (which would use up nessisary resources) Greenland, in contrast, was ALSO setteled initially by the norse (Eric the Red, I belive) However, the settlements he started (I belive there were at least 2) were not successfull due to the lack of needed resources to make the rather rocky and cold island popular. He changed the name to Greenland in hopes of attracting more settelers... Didn't work, of course. Location: Iceland Rep Power: 7 Country: | Rick you are right. PG. Actually many of our mountains are covered with ice all year round, when they came here first there were a lot of trees and grass so there was no problem with resources. But you are right about Greenland. | ||||||||
