Lorry carrying 12m bees overturns

Watch out PB

Motorists on Canada's biggest highway ended up with a bee in their bonnet after a truck transporting 12m of the insects overturned.
The lorry was carrying 330 crates of honey bees when it tipped over on a ramp in St Leonard, New Brunswick.
Bee experts were called in to help deal with the accident on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police said a downpour of rain helped to contain the bees in and around the vehicle.
"Bees don't like the rain... thousands of bees are hanging on the back of this truck and on the pavement right behind," said police spokesman Derek Strong.

'Disoriented and agitated'
The BBC's Lee Carter in Toronto says the bees had been used to pollinate a crop of blueberries, and were being transported home when the accident happened.
Afterwards, the highway was closed and beekeepers in white protective suits attempted to lure the insects back to their hives.
A Canadian journalist who tried to get too close to the overturned truck was stung several times, but no-one has been seriously injured.
Experts said it was unlikely that the bees would survive very long without the care of experienced beekeepers. Richard Duplain, vice president of the New Brunswick Beekeepers Association, told press the bees would quite likely be angered by their ordeal. "You certainly don't want to go walking through a field of disoriented, agitated and wet honey bees," he said.

I wonder if they came back to the hives last night. I think that would be the best time to pack them back up again.

Not a fun job I imagine

This bear likes honey but not the bees that go with it.

Was sitting out side at a friends place on Friday night, when the sun started to set hundreds (maybe even thousands but I may exagerate) of bees started flying into the yard and around one of the trees. They took a hive out about 2 weeks ago but it looks like they have built another further up. Gave me the shivers as they all flew past back to the tree. The good thing is they left us alone and went right up into the tree.

Heard about the reporter. I have no sympathy for her getting so close with out thinking first.

Think yourself lucky that it's bees that you have, leave them alone to get on with their collecting and they're fine, the midge on the other hand is what is currently plagueing my garden and outdoor work areas and the ones I have bite and leave an itchy spot for about 5 days.

If that will get rid of the midges then sure, smoke them out or relax you enough you don't care about them. I think bug killer may work better.

They're very small and they're silent but when they bite you definitely know they've been there. As we've dug up some of the land for the building works that I've had done it would seem that this has attracted them to the area.
