I have not spent much time back East so I can't 100% tell you about the weather and what it is like to live there. All my info on that is from the weather reports I hear when they do the cross country reports. I also had one manager that moved out here to build a functional IT group, after he had been here for a few years, he made the decision to not move back to Toronto and got them to work things out so he could stay here and work with the 3 hour time difference. Me, I made a career decision one time to NOT move to Toronto even though it would have brought my salary up by about 1/3 and greatly enhanced my career growth oportunities. I like it out here that much.

Historically Eastern Canada is more business oriented and I have heard the work stress is higher where it is lower out here. I think that has changed over the years with more and more companies testing the waters and relocating some of their major head offices this way. I don't notice it much yet but that could be the frog in the pot of water not noticing it is slowly coming ot a boil scenerio.

On the job front, there are alot of technical jobs out here right now. In the past 5 years, Alberta (Calgary) has grown the most in the IT sector. Problem I see with going across the mountains is you get the cold winters and hot summers. The further East you go, it sounds like it gets much more humid with the heat. I don't know if I would like that to live in, vacation, okay, day-day life is questionable.

Check out Weather - Environment Canada I think they have some historic files so you can check out the major cities to see temperatures, humidity, etc...

I am just biased to the West coast.

Yea, he would have a much better outlook on life back East.

Just had an email from a friend who is on vacation in Canada at the moment saying that he's just been offered a job and they'll hold it for him until he can get his house sold on this side of the water.

Looks like I'll at least have somewhere to stay while I search for a job for me over there now.

They were saying that they looked at BC and found that their wages were good but their house prices were silly and the schooling wasn't as good as other places they'd seen.

I, like Glenn, had also looked into going to Australia but from what I was hearing at the time (4-5 years ago) they were tightening up on immigrants and their rules for acceptance were supposed to be tougher than Canada.

My wife and I spent one week in Toronto about three years ago and really liked the city. It was clean (no grafitti anywhere), the residents were friendly, and at that time the exchange rate was in our favor plus the housing market was still strong here.

We liked Toronto well enough we actually looked at some homes for sale. The exchange rate was good enough that we could sell our house here, pay cash for a house twice as big and put $400,000 in the bank. We didn't for a few reasons, no jobs available at that time, medical and dental coverage from my existing retirement program, and winter. Still like Toronto, though.

I'm look'n... I'm only a sit-te-zen in this country that would be the USA Albeit, I've served in this country's military and did my high school here. But I lived in other countries all my life. I'm about 50/50 here and there.
