The mayor is taking a shot at raising money from an easy target. He's basically saying that if you can afford to buy and run a car like that then you have two options, 1) stump up the money or 2) buy a second car and run that when you want to come into London.

The mayor of London has been doing this for a while now so he sees it as people are accepting of it now so he can jack up the price on anything that he can label as antisocial or dirty or anything else that could possibly earn him more votes from the lesser earners.

That would be nice if I could get it for that price! Petrol is currently running at £1.06 for a litre of the cheapest stuff I can find, that's about $8 a gallon to you!

I wish it were just creeping over $3 a gallon here. Today it is $3.70.

I didn't realise that the different states could have such a wild difference in prices, I know that here I'd have to pay more for my fuel if I lived in the London area as I've been there and had to pay more! and I know that the local villages that have petrol stations charge more (quite a lot more in some cases, latest I saw was £1.12 a litre (just under $8.50)).

One thing I don't understand is the amount of leasee gas stations that are going under out this way.

Apparently all of the profits -- yes I do not believe that the R&D money spent equates into the current pricing, otherwise the ongoing record breaking profits wouldn't continue every quarter -- must go straight to the suits at the top.

One would think that owning a gas staion, while certainly not glamourlus work, would at least have a decent return on investment at these prices.

Nope. Most of them make their money on the other stuff in the convenience store part of it. Their profits from the gas is very low. That's one reason some of the older/rural stations don't have card-readers on their pumps. They need people to come inside and impulse buy some Cheetos.
